What Is Counseling???

In your first meeting with a counselor, you will be encouraged to talk freely about what is on your mind or troubling you. Your counselor will listen carefully and help you to clarify your feelings and thoughts and to sort out your problems and needs. He or she may discuss some ways you could address your concerns more effectively. If it would be beneficial, your counselor may suggest that you meet again.

Counseling support is generally short-term, and outside referrals are made for more long-term needs or if other support may be needed. Our counselors can assist you in getting the appropriate services from an off-campus provider.

Counseling services offered by the Center for Counseling, Coaching and Consulting are free of charge and are available to you throughout your university experience.

Everyone's needs are different, and no problem is too small or insignificant to discuss with a counselor. You may receive either individual or group sessions (when available) depending on your specific needs - be they personal, career, or academic.
