Eating Disorders
Eating disorders can affect women and men from all socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds. It is estimated that over 30 million Americans have an eating disorder.
Having too many of the following symptoms may signal an eating disorder:
Eating in secret
Constant low calorie or crash dieting
Following strict rules or rituals about eating
Rigid or excessive exercising
Hiding weight loos by layering clothes
Refusing to talk about food/weight
Irrational fear or being fat regardless of weight
Intentional vomiting after meals
Using weight as a measure of self-worth
Using food to hide feelings of anger, loneliness or rejection
Using food to gain a sense of control over your life
Depending on laxatives, diuretics or enemas
Perceiving foods as "good" or "bad"
Servere self-criticism
